  • The question 
For 7 years I was studying the relationship between a type of algae, diatoms, and physico-chemical parameters in the ecology department of the UDC. During this time I carried out several field and laboratory studies trying to extract relationships by applying biotic indices and multivariate statistical tests. 
We can see in the following figures some images of diatoms:
  • The analysis 
To facilitate the analysis I developed a diatom database, as well as some spreadsheets for the application of biotic indices


As for the statistical part, I carried out descriptive analyses of both biological and physico-chemical variables. To relate the two, I performed multivariate analyses, such as principal component analysis and multidimensional scaling analysis.
  • The conclusion 

    Finally, the presence of certain species could be related to organic and metallic contamination.
